Is your Wi-Fi network vulnerable to WPA2 exploitation?

News broke across the internet this morning, concerning a serious risk facing anyone who accesses a Wi-Fi network, a possible threat has been identified that works against almost all modern Wi-Fi networks. The attack works by exploiting a weakness in the Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) standard itself. The WPA2 standard has been widely used since it was adopted in 2004. Vanhoef of KU Leuven in Belgium, who first reported the weakness was quoted as saying “If your device supports Wi-Fi, it is most likely affected.”

Businesses and home users alike are advised to ensure that they have the latest patches applied for their devices, this would cover everything from home routers with built in Wi-Fi, corporate Wi-Fi networks and any devices that connect to a Wi-Fi network, such as laptops or mobile phones. Simply changing your Wi-Fi password won’t make your network any less vulnerable to the risk.

Microsoft have advised that patches for their operating systems are already available, with other vendors following suit.
